After a brief hiatus due to FA Cup weekend Gaz is back with three win selections across The English Football Leagues this weekend.
Gary keeps on winning and is our runaway betting leader as the EFL returns from a cup break. Blackburn Rovers host Preston North End on Friday night and Wrexham return home to The Racecourse Ground after a couple of away games and another cup win. Check back on Thursday for the final breakdown.
Swindon Town v Stockport
Sat 11 Nov 15:00
Swindon come into this game in terrible form. The Robins have lost their last three in the league and suffered a humiliating 4-7 defeat to non-league Aldershot in the FA Cup last weekend. If the bare result isn’t embarrassing enough, Swindon were 0-7 down at one stage. I had expected a reaction from Michael Flynn’s men in Tuesday’s rescheduled fixture versus Colchester but a 3-1 defeat just adds to the Swindon woes.
Table-toppers Stockport are the visitors on Saturday and that must strike fear into even the most ardent Swindon fan. County were my Antepost selection to win League Two but even I didn’t expect them to be as dominant as they have been recently. After a poor start Stockport have kicked into gear and have won ten league matches on-the-spin. Their winning run extends to twelve if you include cup matches proving they’re a force to be reckoned with. Given the contrasting form I had expected Stockport to be long odds-on to take all three points here and was shocked to see 21/20 on offer with bet365. That looks incredible value and has to be taken.
Colchester United v Sutton United
Sat 11 Nov 15:00
As mentioned above, Colchester picked up three points in midweek when overcoming Swindon and look a team on the up. That’s The U’s third consecutive league win and has given them some buffer from the relegation zone.
Sutton are in a very precarious position and need wins fast. United haven’t been too bad at home, however, on their travels they’ve been deplorable, losing all seven away matches. In those seven losses, they’ve conceded 23 goals, an average of 3.28 goals per game. With that in mind a home win looks banker material and at Evens provides lots of value.
Grimsby Town v Morecambe
Sat 11 Nov 15:00
Grimsby have been in free fall down the League Two table recently and now find themselves in a relegation scrap. It’s no win in five for The Mariners including four back-to-back defeats. Overall their home form doesn’t read too badly (W3, D2, L3) however two of those defeats have come in their last four matches.
Morecambe are a solid side and I can’t believe they’re priced at 12/5 to win this. The Shrimps lost their last league match but bounced back with an impressive FA Cup win over League One Lincoln. That makes it one loss from their last ten in all competitions (W7, D2, L1) and they should win the battle of the Seasiders.
