EFL Betting Tips: Salford To Spring A Surprise

EFL Betting Tips: Salford To Spring A Surprise

The EFL returns and so does Gaz with three selections for the weekends English football actions

Queens Park Rangers v Hull City

Sat 9 Dec 15:00

I don’t often venture into the Championship for my selections as given its competitiveness, it can be hard to find value. I’m making an exception this week though and I think this match will be a real Christmas Cracker. QPR have had a dismal season thus far and it was no surprise when Gareth Ainsworth was relieved of his duties. Marti Cifuentes is the new man at the helm and he’s had an instant impact, picking up some vital points in recent weeks. The R’s come into this off back-to-back wins and have only lost once in their last five games (W2, D2, L1). Although still in the relegation zone, the West Londoners look like a team on the up.

In contrast, Hull have had a pretty good season so far. The Tigers sit sixth in the table and look like a side capable of making the playoff’s. As you’d expect from a team at the top end of the table, their form reads pretty well with just one defeat in their last seven matches (W5, D1, L1). To me, this match has draw written all over it and that’s my bet at odds of 9/4.

Bradford v Salford

Sat 9 Dec 15:00

This is another game between two very evenly matched sides. On the evidence of bare results you’d have to say the bookmakers have priced this up correctly. Bradford have won two on-the-spin and are rightly favourites. While I think the favourites tag is probably justified, I’m not sure odds-on is an accurate reflection of their chances, especially as The Banthams have lacked consistency all season long.

Salford have only taken two points from a possible fifteen, which is probably why the layers have taken such a negative view of their chances. Those matches have all been against sides in the top half of the table, four of whom currently occupy playoff positions. Prior to that unkind run of fixtures they had been in decent form, winning four of six (W4, D1, L1). Back in calmer waters again this week I think they could pull of a shock and I’m backing an away win at odds of 3/1.

Accrington v Doncaster

Sat 9 Dec 15:00

My bet here is another call that’s more from the gut than based on the bare stats. Accrington have lost back-to-back games and it’s now just one win in five for Lancashire side. Despite this bad run I still think they’re a good bet on Saturday.

Stanley’s home form is solid and they’re up against a Doncaster side that struggle on the road. Rovers main problem has been their inability to keep clean sheets when on their travels. They’ve conceded in all six away matches to date and it’s hard to see that changing this weekend.

EFL Betting Tips

QPR v Hull – Draw @ 9/4 (1 point)

Bradford v Salford – Salford Win @ 3/1 (1 point)

Accrington v Doncaster – Accrington Win @ 21/20 (1 point)

Above in a treble @ 25/1 (1 point)
