EFL Tips: Best Bets This Weekend

EFL Tips: Best Bets This Weekend

The EFL column came close midweek as Gaz landed two of his three picks and he is back with a set of high-priced Saturday selections.

Grimsby Town v Mansfield Town

Sat 19 Aug 3:00 Pm

This looks like a great game on paper with both sides having enjoyed impressive starts the season. Grimsby pulled off a two-nil victory over Salford in midweek and their record now reads W1, L1, D1. Mansfield are unbeaten with one home win and two away draws. To me this has a score draw written all over it and that result is priced up at a tempting 10/3. Both of Mansfield’s away draws have been 4 goal thrillers (both ending 2-2) and I think this could end up being a similar result.

Accrington Stanley v Harrogate

Sat 19 Aug 3:00 Pm

After a positive opening day win over Doncaster Harrogate’s form has taken a turn for the worse. Back-to-back losses, the latest a 3-0 drubbing by Tranmere in midweek means another relegation battle looks on the cards for the Yorkshiremen. They have another tough assignment this Saturday as they travel to face a decent Accrington side. Having dropped down from League One, Stanley’s results have been mixed (W1, D1, L1), but they’ve had a tough run to begin their campaign. The loss to table-topping Gillingham and a draw with second-placed Barrow might not age badly. This looks like an easier task and I’m banking on a home win.

Colchester v MK Dons

Sat 19 Aug 3:00 Pm

Colchester’s opening match of the season was postponed which means they have only played two games so far. Unfortunately for The U’s both matches ended in defeat and I think another could be on the cards this weekend. The MK Dons are in town and after struggling in League One last term the Dons have had a good start to this campaign. A shock 3-5 win over division favourites Wrexham on matchday one has been followed by another win over Tranmere and a narrow defeat versus Crawley. That’s good form and I’m surprised to see them at such a big price here. Striker Mo Eisa is a great weapon at this level and having netted in all three league games is a man I want to side with. An away win at 17/10 is the play here.
