La Liga Predicitions: Top 2 To Battle It Out Iin The Bernabeu

Savage gives us his thoughts on the pick of the matches in Spain’s Primera División as the top two meet in what could be a title decider

Real Madrid v Girona

 Sat 10 Feb 17:30

Real had almost certain victory snatched from them late on by crosstown rivals last time out. Marcos Llorente’s 93rd minute equaliser claimed a vital point for the visitors. However, Real have a chance to extend their lead to 5 points when they host second placed Girona. The away side could not regain top spot as it finished scoreless at home to Sociedad. Both sides may be without key forwards for this one. Vini Jr is a major doubt having pulled up during the warmup last weekend. Girona’s topscorer Artem Dovbyk is currently recovering from a knee injury but may feature against Madrid. That being said Los Blanquivermells are currently unbeaten away from home and have only failed to score in 1 of those (W8 D3). Of course Los Blancos have yet to lose at the Bernabéu (W9 D2), so one of these impressive records may end this weekend.

Sevilla v Atlético Madrid

Sun 11 Feb 17:30

Sevilla have had a torrid run in the league this season. They have just 4 wins to their name and just 2 in their last 17 matches (W2 D7 L8). Ordinarily the Ramón Sánchez Pizjuán is a difficult ground for any visiting team to get a result in. However, this has not been the case of late with no wins in their last 8 on home soil. The road has not been much kinder to Simeone’s side. Los Colchoneros have already lost 5 of their 11 away from home (W4 D2 L5). Morata should return to the starting line for Atleti having been a sub in the Copa in midweek. This is unlikely to be a classic match and goals may well be at a premium. With both sides still fighting for very different reasons there is still a lot on the line.

Barcelona v Granada

Sun 11 Feb 20:00

Despite moving two points closer to the top, Barcelona still feel a long way off the pace. They currently sit 8 points adrift of their bitter rivals Real but there is still a slim chance of overturning them. Albeit a very slim one. Xavi’s men will play 8 times before El Clasico and what happens between now and then could prove vital in the title race. Granada have only claimed 1 point from 11 away matches (D1 L10) so form is not on their side. Added to that they have only scored once in matches so goals are not on their side either. This should be as routine as they come for Barca despite their substantial injury list. Lewandowski was back amongst the goals for the first time in 7 matches last weekend. The Polish striker should find opportunities against the team that has conceded the second most goals.

Smart Bets:

Real Madrid v Girona – Real Madrid and Both Teams To Score @ 6/4

Sevilla v Atlético Madrid – Draw @ 12/5

Barcelona v Granada – Barcelona Win To Nil @ 11/10

Treble @ 17/1
