La Liga Predictions: A Surprise Six-Pointer in Catalan Derby

La Liga Predictions: A Surprise Six-Pointer in Catalan Derby

Savage gives us his thoughts on the pick of the matches in Spain’s Primera División as Girona look to claim the bragging rights in the Catalonian Derby

Real Betis v Real Madrid

Sat 09 Dec 15:15

Despite this Madrid squad being stretched extremely thin they still manage to keep on winning. Last weekend’s comfortable 2-0 victory over Granada kept them at the summit, albeit on goal difference only. However, the trip south to Seville should provide one of the sterner tests for Ancelotti’s side. The hosts have lost just once in their last 16 in all competitions (W9 D6 L1). They were left frustrated by a 0-0 draw away to bottom side Almería. An additional midweek runout in the Copa Del Rey will have given less recovery time for some key players. This will be no easy match for Los Blancos. Betis are currently undefeated at home and have conceded just 2 in 7 games.

Atlético Madrid v Almería

Sun 10 Dec 13:00

Atlético still have to play Lazio next week with the top spot in Group E up for grabs. However, the visit of Almería should provide little more than a training match for Simeone’s men. The away side have won just once in their last 17 (W1 D4 L12). They were also dumped out of the Copa in midweek by Fourth-tier side Barbastro. Los Colchoneros find themselves just 3 points off third spot with a game in hand over Barcelona. Antoine Griezmann has been in imperious form of late and is second only to Jude Belligham in terms of goals scored. The Frenchman could make light work of this Almería defence. Having said that, Madrid have conceded at least once in 6 of their 7 home games. There might at least be a consolation goal on offer at the Wanda.

Barcelona v Girona

Sun 10 Dec 20:00

Nobody would have predicted that Barcelona would be going into this Catalan derby 4 points adrift of their neighbours. Girona have managed to find some incredible results so far. A late Cristhian Stuani double claimed all 3 points against Valencia in matchday 15. This saw the level again on points with Madrid at the top. No team in the league has scored more than Los Blanquivermells and Xavi will be acutely aware of this. However, only 3 sides have conceded less than the hosts. Barcelona narrowly edged out Atlético last weekend and have had a full week to recover ahead of this one. Their visitor’s on the other hand will play in the Copa on Thursday night. It is a tall order for them to overturn their Catalonian compatriots but their season has been full of surprises.

La Liga Smart Bets:

Real Betis v Real Madrid – Under 2.5 goals @ 21/20

Atlético Madrid v Almería – Atlético Madrid and Both Teams To Score @ 13/10

Barcelona v Girona – Double-Chance Girona and Draw @ 6/4

The above in treble @ 11/1
