La Liga Predictions: Champions League Places Still Up For Grabs

Savage gives us his thoughts on the pick of the matches in Spain’s Primera División as Atlético look to chase down third spot

Atlético Madrid v Celta Vigo

Sun 12 May 15:15

Given their home form this season Atleti should be a lot closer to third palace than 6 points. They have dropped just 4 points in 17 matches (W15 D1 L1). In that time, goals have certainly been in abundance (40) with only Real and Girona outscoring them at home. The visitors have steadied the ship in recent weeks and look to have gotten themselves clear of the relegation zone. However, their form on the road does not make for particularly attractive reading. Los Celestes have only 3 wins (W3 D5 L9) to show for their efforts away from Galician soil. With 4 rounds of matches still to play neither side can head for the beach just yet. Unfortunately for the side in the bottom half of the top this looks to be a routine home win.

Barcelona v Real Sociedad

Mon 13 May 20:00

Barcelona fans must scarcely have been able to believe their eyes. For the second time this season they found themselves on the wrong end of a 4-2 loss to Girona. This was compounded not only by the victors leapfrogging them but also officially handing the title to Madrid. Real’s heroics in midweek will have only served to add further salt to an already heavily seasoned wound. The only thing that Barca can salvage from their dismal season is to reclaim their place in the top 2. The visit of Sociedad is by no means a gimme for the Catalans. The away side have lost just 2 of their last 13 on the road (W6 D5 L2). That being said, the hosts have been incredibly strong on their own patch this year. They might not have it all their own way but they should have enough for the win.

Smart Bets:

Atlético Madrid v Celta Vigo – Atlético Madrid and Both Teams To Score @ 7/4

Barcelona v Real Sociedad – Barcelona and Over 1.5 goals @ 6/5

Double @ 5/1
