La Liga Predictions: Heavyweight Top 4 Clash in Madrid

La Liga Predictions: Heavyweight Top 4 Clash in Madrid

Savage gives us his thoughts on the pick of the matches in Spain’s Primera División as Atleti and Barcelona square off in Madrid

Osasuna v Real Madrid

Sat 16 Mar 15:15

The visitors had about as comfortable an afternoon as you could expect against Celta last time out. A 4-0 drubbing, albeit with the help of two own goals, ensured they maintained their 7 point lead. Los Blancos will once again be without Jude Bellingham as he serves the second of his two match ban. The hosts suffered their first defeat in 5 (W3 D1 L1)  against the would be title challengers Girona. Los Rojilos home form has definitely improved in recent weeks (W5 L1)  having previously won just 1 of their first 8. However, Madrid have an impressive record of their own. They are undefeated against Osasuna in their last 20 matches dating back to 2011. Having scored in every away game this season it is distinctly possible that Ancelotti’s men will make that 21.

Getafe v Girona

Sat 16 Mar 17:30

Girona’s promising title challenge has faltered badly in the last few weeks. Just 2 wins in 6 (W2 D1 L3) has seen them slip out of reach of Madrid. However, they are still maintaining  a one point lead over their Catalan rivals in third. Michel’s men should fancy themselves against a mid-table Getafe side who have registered more losses (9) than wins (8). Despite that, the host have a fairly decent record at the Coliseum Alfonso Pérez with just 2 losses so far. Getafe have scored a decent number of goals (36) this season but they have also conceded a fair amount as well (42). This one could make for interesting watching as there is a potential for goals at both ends.

Atlético Madrid v Barcelona

Sun 17 Mar 20:00

Atlético did just enough to scrape past Inter Milan in their Champions League tie in midweek. An 87th minute goal from Depay ultimately sent the game all the way to penalties. Madrid’s league form has been shaky. Just 2 wins in 6 (W2 D2 L2) has seen them fail to make any ground on the Top 3. However, the visit of Barcelona provides a genuine chance to claw back some of the six point deficit. The away side had a much more comfortable path to the last 8 with a 3-1 win over Napoli. Despite having lost just once in their last 12 (W8 D3 L1), Xavi’s side continue to underwhelm. They are also still staring at an 8 point gap to the top which will cause fans the most concern. This fixture is unlikely to be a goal fest with the last six matches all having less than 2.5 goals.

Smart Bets:

Osasuna v Real Madrid – Real Madrid and Both Teams to Score @ 12/5

Getafe v Girona – Girona To Win @ 13/10

Atlético Madrid v Barcelona – Under 2.5 goals @ 13/10

Treble @ 17/1
