La Liga Predictions: Race For The Title Heating Up

Savage gives us his thoughts on the pick of the matches in Spain’s Primera División as Madrid begin what could be their title procession.

Barcelona v Las Palmas

 Sat 30 Mar 20:00

Barcelona had an impressive victory away to Atlético before the international break. However, they still did not manage to put a dent in the gap to the other Madrid team. El Clásico is once again looming on the horizon three games from now. If the Catalan side could claw back a point or two between now and then things could get interesting. The visit of Las Palmas should pose little threat to Xavi’s men. Seven of the away side’s 12 losses have come on the road and they were held scoreless in each of them. However, Barca’s 3 losses have all come at home so the visitors will see that as a glimmer of hope. Los Amarillos could prove to be hard to break down but the host should still have enough in reserve.

Girona v Real Betis

Sun 31 Mar 15:15

The hosts’ attempt to keep pace with The Big Two looks to finally have run aground. Just 2 wins in their last 7 (W2 D1 L4) has seen them slip 10 points behind Real. However, there is still the rather significant matter of a place in Europe which is very much up for grabs. A win against the struggling away side would certainly boost their confidence heading down the stretch. The visitors’ form has taken a sharp downturn in recent weeks as they suffered three defeats on the bounce. Given that Girona have lost just once at home they should not be too worried about Los Verdiblancos. In fact, Manuel Pellegrini’s men have only won 3 games on the road so far. Betis may struggle against a miserly defence that is conceding an average of just a goal a game at home.

Real Madrid v Athletic Bilbao

Sun 31 Mar 20:00

Carlo Ancelotti has both positive and negative news heading into a massive tie with Bilbao. The return of Jude Bellingham after suspension will be welcomed by all in white. However, Vini Jr. will be an enormous loss to them in attack. The Brazilian had been on a run of 6 goals in his last 4 appearances. The visitors do not have a fantastic away record. They have just 2 wins in their last 8 on the road (W2 D4 L2). Given that their hosts are unbeaten at home this could be a significant challenge for the Basque side.

Smart Bets:

Barcelona v Las Palmas – Barcelona and Under 2.5 Goals @ 16/5

Girona v Real Betis – Girona and Both Teams to Score @ 11/5

Real Madrid v Athletic Bilbao – Under 2.5 Goals @ 11/10

Treble @ 27/1
