La Liga Predictions: Real to Dominate Madrid Derby

La Liga Predictions: Real to Dominate Madrid Derby

Savage gives us his thoughts on the pick of the matches in Spain’s Primera División as Madrid finally go clear at the top

Celta Vigo v Barcelona

Sat 17 Feb 17:30

Celta Vigo are lurking dangerously close to the relegation places at the moment. In fact they sit just 3 points clear of Cádiz. The home side won just once in their first 16 matches (W1 D7 L8) but they have improved since then. 3 wins in their last 8 has seen them edge closer to the teams above them. Meanwhile Barca have been making life as difficult as possible for their departing Head Coach. An 80th minute equaliser from Yamine Lamal spared the Catalan side’s blushes against a team 16 places below them. Xavi’s men are still unbeaten on the road (W6 D5) but they are conceding more goals than they would like. In fact they have managed just 2 clean sheets away from home. The visitors should have a number of key players returning from injury and this could make the difference here.

Rayo Vallecano v Real Madrid

Sun 18 Feb 13:00

It came as little surprise that Rayo parted company with their manager during the week. The home side have won just once in their last 14 (W1 D5 L8). The interim head coach could not have wished for a harder match to start his brief tenure. Los Blancos are looking incredibly impressive despite their lengthy injury list. The 4-0 demolition of title hopefuls Girona showed the rest of the league just how strong they are. Vallecano have not won a league match in Vallecas since the 15th of September and that likely will not change this weekend. The temptation for Ancelotti may be to rush Jude Bellingham back after his recent injuries. However, in Vini Jr he may have one of the most electric players in world football. He could find himself with more than a few opportunities against a bottom half side.

Smart Bets:

Celta Vigo v Barcelona – Barcelona and Over 2.5 Goals @ 13/8

Rayo Vallecano v Real Madrid – Vinicius Jr Anytime Goalscorer @ 13/10

Double @ 5/1
