Ligue 1 Tips: Feeling Reims about a 22/1 Treble

Ligue 1 Tips: Feeling Reims about a 22/1 Treble

Dermot has used a few form trends in this weeks 22/1  French football treble

Not for the first time this season red cards killed two of the three legs of the treble last week. Lens even contrived to miss a penalty. Right bets, wrong results.

Ligue 1 Game Week 19 opens with a entertaining clash of Lyon and Rennes. The week closes with what should also be a very good game. Brest travel to Stade des France on a run of 4 wins in a row (also unbeaten since late November). Looking at PSG’s next 5 games, this might be the only time they potentially drop points before facing Monaco away in March.

The most intriguing clash of the Ligue 1 weekend is Marseille Vs Monaco on Saturday. Both head coaches could be in line for the chop depending on the result. The Marseille faithful have taken to Gennaro Gattuso but 7th place and 15pts off PSG is not the expected return at this stage of the season. Adi Hutter has come under fire in recent weeks after losses to a struggling Lyon and a thumping by Reims. Like a lot of Ligue 1 teams, both sides are without a number of key players with AFCON 2023 still in progress.

Montpellier Vs Lille Prediction

Sun Jan 28th 12:00

This is a meeting of two of the sides least affected by AFCON 2023. Montpellier are not in great form in Ligue 1 recently with only 1 win in 9. Lille are W4-D4-L1 over the same stretch. The noticeable improvement has coincided with Jonathan David finding yet another scoring streak. The Canadian hitman has scored 4 in his last 6 (or 7 in 7 including Coupe de France). Michel Der Zakarian has been experimenting with different systems recently in a bit to get La Paillade‘s season going in the right direction. It’s a good spot to bank on the Lille frontman finding any indecision in whatever system the veteran tactician goes with.

Reims Vs Nantes Prediction

Sun Jan 28th 14:00

Will Still’s home side are in the last European spot in the Ligue 1 table (6th). A decent run could see them pushing for a UCL spot. They could well be in that spot right now. Wins over Le Havre and Monaco now see them face a beleaguered Nantes followed by Toulouse (H),  Lorient (A), Lens (H), Le Havre (A). 15 points in their next 5 games is not inconceivable. Nor is them putting more than one goal past Les Canaries. The form of the win last week at Monaco (3-1) should see them have more than enough for the visitors.

Initially it looked like the appointment of Jocelyn Gourvennec over Pierre Aristouy was a good decision (albeit a strange one). Beating Nice was no small feat but since then they have lost all 4 games in Ligue 1. Add in getting knocked out of the cup by 2nd tier Laval, Nantes are in a bad spot at present. If Reims score early here it could be a long afternoon for the visitors.

Reims to win -1 @ 23/10

Lorient Vs Le Havre Prediction

Sun Jan 28th 14:00

According to LiveScore, Lorient will be without 11 players for the visit of Le Havre through injury and international duty. Of that 11, 7 are starters and 2 in the rotation. For a struggling Ligue 1 side, missing 9 from their pool of 17 or so for the first team is a lot to overcome. Especially for a side that’s only picked up 2pts from the past 27 on offer.

Le Havre’s return to Ligue 1 was built on a solid defence (only 19 goals conceded all season in Ligue 2). It was a surprise to see them involved in so many over 2.5 goal games early in the season. Luka Elsner has reverted to last season defensive solidity recently with Le Doyen Club only conceding 7 goals in their past 10 games. If they get on the scoreboard first, it’s hard to see a decimated Lorient side breaching such a stout defence.

Le Havre @ 8/5
