Ligue 1 Tips: Lyon Look For Liftoff Against Toulouse as Jake O’Brien Finds Form

Ligue 1 Tips: Lyon Look For Liftoff Against Toulouse as Jake O’Brien Finds Form

Matchday 15 offers up a tough set of Ligue 1 games but Dermot has an interesting 17/2 treble lined up

A Jake O’Brien double wasn’t enough for a lackluster Lyon last week. The young Irishman twice found the back of the net for OL and twice they coughed up a goal shortly after. PSG have managed to put some breathing space between themselves and the rest of the Ligue 1 table and the visit of Nantes should not be a problem. On paper the game of the week is Rennes Vs Monaco on Saturday afternoon.

Nice v Reims Prediction

Sun 10 Dec 12:00

The “Kings of the One Nil Win” where on the end of a 1-0 reversal at Nantes last week. It was one of the rare games that Nice have dominated this season but didn’t get a win or at least a draw. So rare that it was their first loss of the season in Ligue 1. Opponents Reims beat Strasbourg 2-1 to end a run of two defeats. This will be a fascinating clash of Ligue 1’s youngest managers. Francesco Farioli being the elder at just 34 yrs of age to Will Still’s 31 yrs. I expect the Italian to be the victor as Nice get their title aspirations back on track. The temptation is Nice 1-0 of course but just a shade under odds against to just win the game is still a fine bet.

Nice to win @ 10/11

Clermont Foot v Lille Prediction

Sun 10 Dec 14:00

Clermont picked up 5 points from 15 in arguably their easiest 5 game stretch in Ligue 1 this season. Pascal Gastien’s side now start the next run of 5 with games against Lille, Marseille, Rennes and a rejuvenated Nantes. Their attacking MO has been quick transitions from back to front but this formidable Lille midfield quintet will likely dominate again. This game could be a Lille -1 or Lille/David ATS candidate but looking at both sides numbers this season I’ve gone a different route. Clermont have only scored 3 goals in 7 games at Stade Gabriel-Montpied all season. On the road, Lille have done better but 9 in 7 doesn’t scream a goalfest. LOSC also haven’t scored 3 on the road in Ligue 1 since February. Paulo Fonseca’s side should win without running up a score.

Lille win and Under 3.5 goals @ 7/4

Lyon v Toulouse Prediction

Sun 10 Dec 16:05

I discussed situational bets a couple of weeks ago and this week another arises. Both sides will equally be eyeing this fixture as an excellent chance for 3pts. The thing to take into account, bar a miracle run, is that this could be the game that gets Lyon relegated as early as mid December. Looking at the rest of the season, this could be the last game where OL are favourites for the remainder of the Ligue 1 campaign. Whilst Bordeaux and Saint-Etiennes recent relegation’s were not overly surprising, Les Gones are a staple of French top flight football.

Carles Martinez’s side will have to deal with knowing that a loss puts another team within a win of putting them into the relegation zone. There doesn’t appear to be enough leaders or talent to overcome this from a mentality point of view. Every Lyon player, mentor, official and fan in the Groupama on Sunday will know the magnitude of this game. If they can be the proverbial 12th man, it could be enough to finally kickstart an otherwise dreadful season.
