Serie A Predictions: Expect A Cracker When Genoa Meet Milan

Enzo returns after a short break with three Italian football betting tips for Serie A matchday 8

A lot happened during my week long hiatus and to be honest, I’m glad I was unable to post my Serie A predictions because I would have been taken to the cleaners. To recap everything would take an article in itself so here is a brief summary of my personal highlights. Sassuolo did what they do best by beating Juventus and Inter then losing to Monza. Federico Dimarco scored an early contender for goal of the season against Empoli. Lautaro came off the bench and scored four goals in the space of 30 minutes and Papu Gomez joined Monza on a free transfer. Anyway, enough procrastination, here are my Serie A betting tips and predictions for Matchday 8.

Genoa v Milan Prediction

Sat 7th Oct 19:45

Milan were in Champions League mode on Wednesday and came away with a very credible point in Dortmund. On Saturday the Rossoneri, who are level on points with Inter at the summit, return to domestic duties when they take on Genoa side that are on the up.

The Grifone are fresh from a 4-1 thrashing of Roma which was followed by a well earned but slightly unlucky draw in Udine. On the pitch Alberto Gilardino’s side is beginning to gel, particularly in the attacking department. Summer signings Mateo Retegui and Ruslan Malinovskyi look to be finding their form and along with Albert Guðmundsson, they have the potential to be one of the strongest attacks in the league.

This match will be a tough test for Milan especially so soon after playing in Europe but the 14/5 available on an upset is just a little to stingy for my taste. Instead I am going for a bet that will exclude the result. All of Genoa’s home games have gone over the 2.5 mark and have seen both teams score. The same has happened in three out of four of Milans away matches. With those stats in mind, Over 2.5 goals and btts @ 11/8 looks like excellent value.

Monza v Salernitana Prediction

Sun 8th Oct 11:30

Like Genoa, Monza are starting to get into their stride. The Brianzoli are now unbeaten in four (W1 D3 L0) and have yet to taste defeat at the Stadio Brianteo. Their defence has been soild and both their victories this season have come without conceding.

In contrast, Salernitana are headed in the opposite direction. After a promising opening to the campaign which saw them draw with Roma and Udinese, the Granata have only managed to pick up a single point since. More worryingly for Poalo Sousa, his side have only scored once in the last five matches and he will most likely be without the services of topscorer and creative driving force, Antonio Candreva, on Sunday.

A comfortable home win beckons in this one but at odds on it offers little value. Monza win to nil @ 2/1 on the other hand is a fair price and one worth taking.

Cagliari v Roma Prediction

Sun 8th Oct 17:00

My final Serie A betting prediction is more of a hunch rather than anything stats based but there are some numbers to support it.

The first Sunday evening game sees two struggling sides clash in Sardinia. Roma currently sit in the bottom half of the table and their form(W2 D2 L3) has been erratic at best. A sublime 7-0 victory closely followed by a 4-1 drubbing highlights just how unpredictable Mourinho’s team are this season.

The same cannot be said for Cagliari who have been consistently awful since their return to Serie A. Claudio Ranieri’s fairytale is begining to look more like a nightmare every week and after seven topfilght games, (W0 D2 L5) the Sardinians are rock-bottom with two points.

Roma have the the players and the capability to dish out a good battering as evidenced by the demolition of Empoli and I feel like one might be one might be on the cards again. Four of Cagliari’s losses have been by more than one goal so because of this, my final Serie A prediction of the week is Roma -1 @ 5/2.

Serie A Predictions

Genoa v Milan: Over 2.5 goals and btts @ 11/8

Monza v Salernitana: Monza win to nil @ 2/1

Cagliari v Roma: Roma -1 @ 5/2
