The destination of the title may have been decided weeks ago but the races for the top four as well as to beat the drop are still in full swing and Enzo has three bets for the most consequential clashes of Serie A matchday 37
Verona v Empoli
Sun 28th May 11:30
Depending on the outcome of Spezia and Lecce’s clashes, this could be a must win game for Verona if they are to avoid relegation. Unfortunately for the Mastini, they face an Empoli side in excellent form. Fresh from a 4-1 trouncing of Juve, Paolo Zanetti’s side are undefeated in their last four (W3 D1 L0) and have scored ten in the process. Veteran striker Ciccio Caputo who made the move from Sampdoria in January, left it late to find his shooting boots but the 35 year old has now bagged three in three.
Initially, I was considering double chance draw/Empoli at a very reasonable 6/5 but since it’s the end of the season why not go for the juice, so Franceso Caputo Anytime Scorer @ 7/2 is my first Italian football bet of the weekend.
Monza v Lecce
Sun 28th May 14:00
Another relegation candidate facing an in-form opponent is Lecce. Monza are undefeated in eight outings (W5 D3 L0) and seem determined to finish as high as possible in their maiden season.
Lecce have shown a great ability to grind out a point and that might just be what saves them when all is said and done. Another two draws to add to their collection of 12 should be enough to guarantee them Serie A football next season. Given what is at stake I can’t see the Salentini being too adventures and another park-the-bus job beckons. A draw @ 23/10 seems the most likely result.
Juventus v AC Milan
Sun 28th May 19:45
Juve’s second points deduction means that the Bianconeri will not feature in the 2023/24 edition of the Champions League. The 10 point penalty appears to have knocked the stuffing out of the team and Allegri’s side looked despondent when they sank to a 4-1 defeat at the hands of Empoli on Monday evening.
One man’s curse is another man’s blessing and such is the case with Milan. Their opponent’s off-field woes have propelled them back into the top four but qualification is still not assured because only 3 points separate the Rossoneri from Atalanta in 5th.
This is a tough game to call. Juventus tend to perform well against the sides around them but Milan are the bigger price and have more to play for so AC Milan Win @ 2/1 will be my final Serie A bet of matchday 37.
