Serie A Tips: Rejuvenated Verona To Outplay The Viola

Serie A Tips: Rejuvenated Verona To Outplay The Viola

After a profitable Matchday 23, Enzo is hoping his run continues so he returns optimistic with three more selections for this weekends Serie A fixtures

Salernitana v Monza

Sun 26th Feb 14:00

Monza’s eight game unbeaten run finally came to an end on Saturday following the 1-0 home defeat to Milan. After a rocky start, the Brianzoli have steadily climbed the table and now find themselves just three points shy of the final European place. Even Silvio Berlusconi could not have asked for a better maiden season in Serie A.

Their opponents, Salernitana, have been going in the opposite direction and despite new ownership and a sizeable summer investment, are facing the prospect of another relegation scrap. The Southerners have managed just one victory in ten games (W1 D2 L8) and are just four points above the drop zone.

An Monza win @ 5/4 seems a little on the stingy side but I’m going to back it anyway. Palladino’s side have a decent away record (W4 D2 L5) and are playing well whereas Salernitana have only three victories at the Arechi, all of which came prior to November.

Verona v Fiorentina

Mon 27th Feb 17:30

Unlike Salernitana, Verona returned from the break full of vim and vigour and hungry for survival. They are still in the bottom three with 17 points but a whopping 12 of those were picked up since January. All of Verona’s four wins this season have come at the Bentegodi.

The heights of last year were always going to be difficult to replicate for Fiorentina especially after the sale of Dusan Vlahovic to Juventus. La Viola could still be dragged into a relegation battle come seasons end and even if that scenario is unlikely, Vicenzo Italiano needs to mindful of the possibility.

Fiorentina are in a wretched run of form  (W0 D2 L4 ) and when you throw fatigue from their Conference League double header into the mix, Verona Win @ 11/5 looks like a chance worth taking.

Lazio v Sampdoria

Mon 27th Feb 19:45

The leagues third best defence takes on its worst attack in the final fixture of matchday 24. Sampdoria have only managed 11 goals all season and last weeks retaken penalty was the first one they scored on home soil since the 10th of September. With a record like that it is no surprise to see them languishing at the foot of the table.

With only 11 points to their name, Samp should prove no match for 5th place Lazio on Monday but at odds on the away win offers little value. Instead my final Italian football bet of the week is Lazio win to nil @ 6/5

Smart Bets

Salernitana v Monza: Monza Win @ 5/4

Verona v Fiorentina: Verona Win @ 11/5

Lazio v Sampdoria: Lazio win to nil @ 6/5

The self-proclaimed Italian Stallion. Our boots on the ground so to speak. TheACCAdemic’s Serie A Supremo. His time as a Roma fan has led him to the “hard to support” end of betting and he is no stranger to tipping an unders bet or a draw. Don’t let that put you off. Week in week out Enzo finds value in Italy by avoiding the big names and ploughing his own furrow. To this day he remains the only man in Ireland to own a jersey with Philippe Mexès on the back.
